Amazing Grace

Monday morning my three year old, Fiona, walked into the living room, gleeful as usual, and, upon daddy's request, recited her memory verse for the week. The interaction went something like this, "Hey Fiona, can you say your bible verse for daddy?" Her little three year old voice replied, "Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! Psalm 100.1!," with a rise in volume and emphasis on the "1," expressing her excitement over successfully quoting her verse. Shortly after she bowed her head and prayed, "Thank you Jesus for beautiful day. We love you Jesus. Amen!" Naturally, it fills my heart with joy to hear my little girl quoting ancient, sacred Scripture, and praying to Jesus. And it did something in me...

A Joyful Noise Begets More Joy

As I was experiencing the joy that filled my heart in listening to my daughter speak the Holy Word and pray--and doing so with JOY--I noticed the contagious nature of joy. Her joy caused joy to stir in me. And as the awareness of what was happening began to unfold into more reflection, I thought, If my three year old quoting scripture and praying to Jesus can make me this joyful, what of the joy that fills our Father's heart when His children sing to Him, pray to Him, and recite His word with abounding joy? No wonder He commands us to make a joyful noise! It is for His joy! And His joy is for Him to be our joy, stirring in us an everlasting joy that cannot be contained, and so we SING, we PRAY, we DECLARE SCRIPTURE with JOY! And our Father loves it!

Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing! Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name! For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations. -Psalm 100

Sadly I won't be with you Sunday but I will be making a joyful noise with you in spirit.

In Christ,

-Joseph
