He Put A New Song In My Mouth

He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure. He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. -Psalm 40.2-3b

He put a new song in my mouth. What was the old song? Consider the secular music of today for a moment. If we really take a look at the lyrics what we will find is praise of self, people, success, humanity, etc. Perhaps even some unbiblical, and misguided, praises of God. Just not the true God depicted in the Bible. That was our song before...

He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure. -Psalm 40.2

The things we used to sing about were all things pertaining to this miry bog! We actually sang praises about the pit of destruction, that God salvaged us out of! Now, I'm not saying that all music is bad if it isn't praising and glorifying God, but is it any good?

As a musician I enjoy lots of music, however I can now see it through a biblical (Christian) lens. I do not have the desire to worship the world I was saved from, but this NEW song... This is what we should be after! Having being rescued from the pit, worship in Truth has become our desire! God rescued us from destruction therefore we praise our Rescuer! We sing about things we love, don't we? Then, all the more, let us all sing a new song of praise to our God & King, our Hero: the only One deserving our praise! To Christ our Lord be all glory! Amen.

Eager to worship with you,

-Joseph
