He Left Them

Finally, the Messiah returns to His own, back to Jewish territory. But He wouldn't be there long before the religious were back in His face again.

What sad state. The long awaited Messiah had come for His own, and, yet, they rejected Him, in preference for their own plans & agenda.

Today's passage marks a turning point in Jesus' ministry. They want a sign from heaven, but there won't be any more offered them. From here on the Messiah focuses on His followers who would carry the torch forward, through whom the Lord would build His Church. It's a sad departure. But praise God His work wasn't finished just yet.

Join us this week in Matthew, chapter 16, verses one through four.

Matthew 16.1-4 (esv)

16:1 And the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and to test him they asked him to show them a sign from heaven. He answered them, “When it is evening, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red.’ And in the morning, ‘It will be stormy today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times. An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah.” So he left them and departed.
