Called To Sing
Joseph Morrow - February 13, 2017
Is worship in song a matter of obedience? So what if we don't sing? What about the power of prayer in song? Do you pray powerfully in song?
Let's Look To Scripture
In the book of Acts, God equips His Church with power through song.
About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them, and suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken. And immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone's bonds were unfastened. -Acts 16.25-26
The prayer & song of two believers caused an earthquake, freeing prisoners from bondage! Do you doubt the power God can provide through our prayer in song? Is God still into that, or is this just a thing of the past?
Here is the crucial matter. Do we believe God still acts, can act and will act--in individuals, groups, churches, localities, perhaps even in countries? Do we believe He is capable of doing that today as He was in ancient times? Do we really believe He can still do it? If He is the great Jehovah--I am that I am, I am that I shall be, unchanged, unchanging, unchangeable, the everlasting and eternal God--well, He can still do it.
- D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones
Would you consider someone who doesn't pray a faithful Christian? God has commanded us to pray. Likewise, He has commanded us to sing!
Praise the Lord, all nations! Extol him, all peoples! For great is his steadfast love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord! -Psalm 117.1-2
In Colossians we are commissioned to 1) study the Word, 2) to teach, and 3) to SING! And to do it with thankfulness to God in our hearts.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. -Colossians 3.16
Love Begets Faithfulness
Our love for Christ compels our faithfulness. So let us pray, therefore, that by His grace we might be faithful to our King Jesus in all things. That, because He first loved us, we will love & obey Him.
If you love me, you will keep my commandments. -John 14.15
Eager to worship with you this Sunday,
