— Romans 10.17 —
At South Church, we like to focus on the main things ... the weighty matters ... what matters most. Don't you? This week we looked at a good one - What is the purpose of life? According to the Westminster Catechism, "the chief end of man is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever." God's glory is his reputation, fame, renown, or weightiness. All of life revolves around Him. For an example, we looked at the life, ministry, teaching, and legacy of Jonathan Edwards. He was a godly, American theologian, pastor, father, spouse, and evangelist. We can learn from Edwards. Read his 70 Resolutions, Religious Affections, Charity and Its Fruits, Sermons, Works, Memoir of David Brainerd, or Freedom of the Will. Listen to his Sermons online. I know you will find them life-giving and profitable. Edwards was a man consumed with the glory of God. What about you? Does your life glorify God? Does your family? Does your job? Do your hobbies? Is God's glory your chief end?
25 Now to him who is able to strengthen you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery that was kept secret for long ages 26 but has now been disclosed and through the prophetic writings has been made known to all nations, according to the command of the eternal God, to bring about the obedience of faith— 27 to the only wise God be glory forevermore through Jesus Christ! Amen.
